![]() As far fetched as the films premise is, there is one thing that it possess that few films of its kind have: soul. An over-the-top sci-fi drama with superb usage of CGI and practical effects that have retained much of their "wow" as it ages, fantastic performances from its ensemble as well as a stellar musical score contribute to a fantastic film. July 2, 1996, 220 years after The Declaration of Independence day was signed, "Independence Day" was released (coincidentally the same day the story begins) to enthusiastic moviegoers worldwide. We accept these transgressions of our government blindly, either because of ignorance or apathy, and in doing so have allowed the government of King George to make a comeback in America. Look at the IRS as an example people are terrified of the IRS and even just the threat of being audited and sent to jail is enough to keep the tax revenue flowing into the government. On top of that, our federal government has created its own, un-elected bureaucracy to enforce both unpopular taxes and unjust laws. Sure, a citizen can call their Congressman and complain, but that Congressman is more likely to play the politics of Washington than listen to the complaints of their constituents. With very little representation, taxes are levied on the average citizen that often pay for services or programs that the citizen never voted on or asked for. Jefferson goes on to accuse King George of a multitude of power abuses, namely taxation without consent and establishing a bureaucracy of un-elected officials to enforce unjust and unpopular laws. My perspective on life has been changed in such a short period of time, as I’ve abandoned the hopes of being eternally joyous and rather decided that leading a satisfied life is the best thing that could happen to me. I have seen the beauty of living a simple, contented life and it’s something I wish to have for the rest of my life. "Look for the bear necessities, the simple bear necessities! Forget about your worries and your strife.” -Jungle BookĪ simple, content life is all I seek. ![]() Learning to care so immensely for people I’ve known for such a short while has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life, and I only hope to see my heart continue to accept people in. It’s a beautiful thing-having people who mean more to you than your own wellbeing. I’ve met people who I’d cross oceans for and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve discovered if you don’t value someone enough to sacrifice for them, your friendship isn’t on the level it needs to be. ![]() I’ve met some of the most incredible people in such a short period of time friends that will last a lifetime and beyond.
